COINTELPRO taught us that the FBI and other agencies target
Americans who exercise their right to free thought and belief. While the
premise they operate under is this done to protect us, it is actually
the government they are trying to protect.
Ideas that are contrary to the official narrative are considered treasonous. These ideas include protesting against unnecessary wars and unfair policies. Protesting alone will put us on a list and warrant warrantless surveillance upon we the protestors. This is a fact.
In the past, it is a fact that the FBI has engaged in profiling based on race and religion. They have targeted individuals for supporting ideas that are unpopular with law enforcement and other government agencies. Today, most American's believe the government is corrupt. Therefore, there is a lot of talk between American's which could be considered treasonous by certain 3 letter agencies. Believe it or not, the suppression of dissent has been and is a cornerstone of their responsibilities.
Consider this: If the government targets dissidents and they have implemented mass surveillance programs to closely watch us, are censoring social media, and controlling news outlets, what is it they are looking for? Are they looking for the one in a billion person who is a terrorist, or are they looking for the 7 out of 10 American's who don't trust them and actively state their opinion?
When they find a target, what is their method of dealing with them? If the past is an indicator, they put that person under secret surveillance and institute a program designed to destroy them. Slowly. This is to avoid releasing information alluding to the fact they target dissents, an unpopular move with American's. Unpopular because, as we know, today's dissident is tomorrow's hero. Today's unpopular cause is tomorrow's legislation.
In order for society to progress as a whole, new ideas need to be introduced, old ideas analyzed and improved, and new methods derived from new information that all need to be discussed and implemented. However, the government is not open to these concepts. Change means a loss of control, a restructuring of entrenched bureaucracy, and possible elimination of certain departments and programs. When you are a government employee, whether elected or hired, your goal becomes to protect your position.
An example of government employees protecting their positions would be the Military Industrial Complex. If there are no wars and we have no enemies, we do not need to expand the military. Yet every year the their budget increases. How? Simply by demonizing some country, group of people, or political ideology. Our favorite target appears to be Russia. Since the Cold War, Russia is the defacto piƱata for our military aggression and the justification for massive military budgets. In this way, they avoid budget reductions and base closures. Tomorrow they will have a job.
None of this is new. It is as old as civilization itself. But we are supposed to progress collectively over the course of time. War is a step backwards. If the best way we can think of to solve problems is to blow people up, we are still cave people. If the best solution to control the people of the country is to surveil them, we are right back where we started millions of years ago. People in power who want to remain in power. Dictators and tyrants who want things to stay the same.
